RE Progression Map

Intent – Children learning about RE at New Delaval Primary School should:

  • Develop their knowledge and understanding of Christian and other major religions in Britain.
  • Respect different religions by exploring issues within and between them in order to develop a positive attitude towards living in a religiously diverse society.
  • Understand the significance of religion and its contribution to their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
  • Consider questions of the meaning and purpose of life.
  • To develop enquiry and response skills through the use of distinctive language, listening and empathy.
  • To reflect on, analyse and evaluate their beliefs, values and practices.

Community Partnership

We have established a brilliant link with St. Bede's Church in Newsham and work closely with Father Ian and Father Sion to help extend our RE curriculum offer. Below you will find some examples of this in action.

Parents/Carers can withdraw their children from any/all RE lessons.
Please contact the Headteacher.
Knowledge Organisers

To help support our pupils' retention and knowledge within RE we use knowledge organisers from Year 1 to Year 6. These contain question prompts to help teachers and pupils recap on their prior learning during the half-term unit. They also contain key vocabulary which we refer to throughout the unit. Staff use these knowledge organisers from earlier in the term and even from previous year groups to ensure the pupils are reflecting and retaining what they have learnt already. This helps ensure misconceptions are quickly identified and prevented from developing.
